The Oxford Walk 2011
Brand new and taking place on Sunday 27th November 2011, the event is a sponsored walk in Oxford, one of the most architecturally beautiful and historically fascinating cities in the world. Starting at 11am in the city centre with a short 1.5 mile guided tour of some of the city's main sights, you can then choose to continue with a 3, 5 or 8 mile route, with maps and questions devised by Visit Oxfordshire to help you on your way, to discover lots of interesting facts about Oxford whilst taking in many of its splendid buildings. After completing your route, return for a relaxing drink in the Mitre on Oxford High Street.
You can enter individually or why not invite friends to come and enter a team?
I have attached a flyer giving a bit more information, and please do let me know if you have any queries. Although there is no charge to enter this event, we do suggest all participants aim to raise at least £50 in sponsorship. Pre-booking is essential. Please register your interest with me as soon as possible.
I do hope you can take part in this great event!
Best wishes

I am writing on behalf on Christian Aid in Peterborough to tell you the details of an upcoming event; March for Justice. Through your interest in scenic walks, we thought that this particular campaign may be of interest to you.
In October 2011, Christian Aid Parishad is organising a year-long series of marches of dalit and tribal people in India. This will culminate in an enormous 100,000 strong march from Gwalior to Delhi in October 2012.
The marchers’ goal is to claim rights to land that their families have worked and lived on for generations, and which they are denied because of discrimination. Access to land is vital in helping communities to support their own livelihoods and could potentially lift hundreds of millions of Indians out of extreme poverty.
To show our solidarity, Christian Aid has organised two sponsored walks in cities across the UK on 1st October 2011 and in October 2012. The walks will raise money to support the work of Ekta Parishad and other partners working to tackle inequality in Asia. In Peterborough, on the 1st October, we are hoping to inspire people to attend one of 3 sponsored walks of varying lengths, ending in a short service and refreshments at Peterborough Cathedral.
If this campaign is of any interest to your walkers, or you would like flyers or posters, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information about the event. We appreciate any support you are able to offer.
Kind regards,
Lauren Motlin

Trek Sahara for Parkinson`s UK
Take on the desert this autumn and raise vital funds for Parkinson`s UK!
Very few people can claim to have explored one of Africa`s natural wonders – and you could be one of them! Our Sahara trek takes us through stunning landscapes, from flat plains dotted with acacia trees to perfect wind blown sand dunes as far as the eye can see.
You`ll experience the famous hospitality of our Berber guides, incredible sunsets, mirages and oases, and an awesome feeling of space and solitude in the wilderness.
We will finish our adventure with a free day in the buzzing city of Marrakech and an opportunity to wander around the souks, before returning home from what will undoubtedly be the trip of a lifetime.
This trek will involve varied terrain including soft sand and stony plateaus, with a few longer days, so some training will be necessary. However, the route is well-measured and reasonable breaks will be given for lunch in the shade.
Parkinson’s UK is totally dependent on donations and all money raised will go towards helping us find a cure and improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson`s.

Cotswold Hack - NSPCC 12 and 22 mile `Cotswold Tea Room` sponsored walk
Saturday 24 September, 2011
I am writing to try to interest you in our Cotswolds Hack which is now in its second year.
We have a beautiful route, starting and finishing at Cornbury Park, Charlbury, Oxfordshire. The 12 mile circuit sets off at 9am between a magnificent avenue of mature trees with a stunning view of Cornbury house in the distance. The walk is quickly in woods and then along a county lane before joining part of the Oxfordshire Way and arriving at Spelsbury. Here, in the Memorial Hall (5 mile point) volunteers will welcome you with tea and cake and a well earned rest. Then revived by our delicious offerings you join footpaths over pretty farmland to Ditchley. The walk follows the footpath around Ditchley Park Estate bringing a little grandeur to the day and then rejoins a farmland footpath past Dustfield Farm and back to Charlbury. Here at the 12 mile point, and the finish point for many walkers, there will be another volunteer run 'tea room tent' where walkers can sit and enjoy tea and cake and chat about their day.
The cost of entry is £10 per walker and we ask walkers, either as individuals or groups, to raise sponsorship for the NSPCC. Every penny of sponsorship you raise for your HACK can make a massive difference to local vulnerable children's lives funding counsellors, centres for children and their families, the new ChildLine Schools Service and other initiatives such as a programme to prevent 'shaken baby syndrome.'
For those wanting to put a few more miles on their walking boots the second part of the walk leaves Charlbury and heads to Stonesfield once again joining part of the stunning Oxfordshire Way footpath. In Stonesfield Village Hall (at the 16 mile point) volunteers will welcome you with tea and cake once more before you set off for the homeward stretch past a site of Roman Villa remains, across farmland and through woods at Wilcote. The last mile follows a footpath past Finstock and back into Cornbury.
Those undertaking the 22 mile route have an earlier start time of 7.30am and the registration fee is £20.
I hope we can tempt you to join us on our day.

Poverty; Take a Hike !
22 - 24 July, 2011
I work for a charity that you probably haven’t heard of, we`re called Feed the Minds. Through education we improve the health, finances and rights of the world`s poorest people. We wish there wasn`t a need for our organisation, but unfortunately there is, 800 million people across the world still cannot read or write and this means millions of people aren’t able to work themselves out of poverty, improve their health or defend their rights.
I`m hoping you will want to change this, and help us help more people. By joining our sponsored walking event Poverty: Take a Hike! or by recommending it to the members of your walking club, friends, and work colleagues you could transform lives through education.
We are running the event between the 22nd and 24th of July. It will be challenging but fun, and will involve climbing 4 mountains in 1 day.
Accommodation, food, fundraising tips and an experienced guide will be provided, but you will need to be over 18 years old, organise your own travel to and from the Snowdonia National Park, and raise £400 to help our education for change programme.
More information about us can be found on www.feedtheminds.org or http://tinyurl.com/ftmvmg
Education really can make a world of difference.

Coast Along for WaterAid 2010
Coast Along aims to have teams of walkers on all sections of coastal path included in the event on the challenge day (Saturday 11th September 2010).
This year we need the support of even more walkers, ramblers and runners to achieve our challenge: to get at least one team walking on all 187 sections of selected coastal paths throughout England, Wales and Scotland to raise money for WaterAid. This is the fourth year of Coast Along but the first time Scottish paths have been included in the event, the Fife Coastal Path and the John Muir Way in East Lothian.
Fourteen regions have been divided into 187 sections of between four and 15 miles in length. Each section is graded as easy, moderate, strenuous or severe, so you can choose a path that suits your level of fitness. There is something for everybody: for families, ramblers, long-distance walkers and even marathon runners.
If you would like to discuss or need more information please contact Paul Davidson via e-mail or on 07875872299.http://www.coastalongforwateraid.org/

The Offa’s Dyke Charity Challenge
Saturday 18 September, 2010
The British Red Cross and North East Wales Search and Rescue are working together to stage a revival of an event that last took place in 2005. The Challenge was first held in 2000 to raise funds for British Red Cross in North Wales, and due to its phenomenal success was held again in 2003 and 2005. And now its back!
Not for the faint-hearted, the challenge is to complete the last 26 miles of the Offa’s Dyke path from Clwyd Gate to Prestatyn, following the Clwydian Mountains, either walking or running! The path rises steeply to the highest point of Moel Fammau, 1,818 feet, and then is a series of sharp climbs and falls, until the eventual spectacular view from the Prestatyn Cliffs of the North Wales coast confirms that the end is in sight!
All you need to do to take part is complete the on-line registration, link below, or call to receive a registration form. Registration is £25 per person.
Money raised from this event will be shared equally between the charities. This will enable the Red Cross to continue to provide key services in the North Wales area. For NEWSAR the emphasis is on replacing the vehicles used by the Rescue Team in emergencies.

The Oxfam Ox-Trail 2009 Sponsored Walk Macclesfield to Leek 16 miles
Thursday 13th August and Sunday 16th August 2009
We are organising a sponsored walk on Thursday 13th August and Sunday 16th August 2009 setting out from Macclesfield Town Football ground at 9am and arriving in Leek several hours later. The walk is 16 miles (32 miles for those experienced in walking long distances), keeping off the main roads as far as possible, taking in part of the Macclesfield Canal and some truly beautiful countryside around Rudyard Lake and the miniature railway. By walking you will be helping people all over the world - from Darfur to Pakistan, the Middle East to Sri Lanka.
The money you raise will go to support Oxfam's Emergencies Fund, a life saving tool in helping people recover clean water and sanitation, health and hygiene care and security for some of the 30 million people affected by conflict or natural disaster every year.
Funding such work is essential to reduce death and disease and to help communities recover from floods, famine, persecution and conflict.
Oxfam make a real difference to people's lives worldwide but we cannot do it without you. Just £50 could pay for a hygienic toilet, vital for preventing the spread of disease in an emergency.
The staff and volunteers of Oxfam shop in Macclesfield will be joining with members of the public to raise as much money as possible. We also need people to act as marshals with vehicles along the route to provide refreshments, support and to pick up walkers who have reached their personal limit.
We are inviting local businesses to get involved either through sponsorship or by encouraging employees to join the walk, and looking to local radio stations and newspapers for coverage of the event.
Please contact the Macclesfield Oxfam shop on 01625 429939 or call in and see us at 74 Mill Street, Macclesfield - ask for Vikki or Ian.
To join the walk and get sponsors please register at the shop and to show your commitment please pay £1.00 for the sponsorship form. All monies raised to Oxfam's Emergencies Fund.
You can sponsor on line at http://www.justgiving.com/oxfam_macclesfield
Thank you for supporting Oxfam

Beating the Bounds of Berkshire
2nd May to 10th May, 2009
Beating the Bounds is an ancient custom observed in many English parishes. The community would walk the boundaries of the parish to share the knowledge of where the boundaries lay, and to ask for protection for the lands. As part of BACYP`s 60th anniversary celebration we have joined forces with the Rotary Club of Pangbourne to revive this ancient tradition and attempt for the first time ever to Beat the entire Boundary of Berkshire.
Taking place over nine days (2nd May to 10th May) and broken down into 18 stages BACYP are asking for the support of everybody to come along and walk one or more of the sections. We are attempting to bring the communities and generations together and enjoy the beauty, history and natural wonder that Berkshire has to offer and at the same time raise money for Age Concern Berkshire and over fantastic charities. Patron of the event HRH the Duke of Edinburgh will be opening the event and be leading the walk from Windsor on 2nd May and I sincerely hope you can join us for a section of the walk along the way.
For more information please visit www.beatingthebounds.co.uk or contact myself at Andrew.horner@bacyp.co.uk

Ruth Woodfine took on the walk last year and has already signed up for the year challenge this year she said: “I have done the walk for the last two years. It’s an amazing experience, I found it both exhausting and exhilarating but it really is a great event for people who like to set themselves a physical challenge.”
This year’s challenge raised a massive £5,000, which will be directly put back into the charity to provide free information and advice to disabled people and their families throughout the region.

Malvern Hills Walk in aid of St Richard`s Hospice
Saturday 16th May 2009
Each year St Richard’s Hospice organises a walk on the Malvern Hills with three routes to suit all ages and abilities. Last year we raised over £30,000 from the walk which goes towards the £4.8m running costs to provide free of charge care to people with a life threatening illness in Worcestershire and supporting their families.
Beautiful views of the Worcestershire countryside and beyond (if it’s a clear day!) can be enjoyed from all three routes. The 2 and 5 mile routes are circular from the Blackhills car park to the Wych cutting and back and are marked out by arrows. The 11 mile route goes from Chase End to North Quarry along the ridge of the hills (with a few lower contour options at times) and walkers follow written instructions. There is no entry fee but walkers are asked to raise as much sponsorship money as possible for the hospice.
We are hoping to recruit as many people as possible so that we can raise even more money than last year and would be grateful if you could include information about this popular event on your website.
This year the walk is on Saturday 16th May 2009. St Richard’s Hospice provides free of charge, specialist palliative care, to patients living cancer and other life threatening illnesses and supports their families.
St Richard’s has always been a very special charity offering a haven of dignity, care and compassion to our patients and their families. However, we can only continue to provide this specialist care thanks to the generosity of our supporters and donors.
Demand for our care is constantly increasing and we now help 1,800 patients and their families each year through all our services, including our nurses in the community and our family support team. Each month we receive at least 70 new referrals to our Clinical Nurse Specialists who support patients in their own homes. Our 15-bed In-patient Unit runs 24-hours a day, all year round, offering specialist palliative care with a ratio of nurses to patients of 2:1. The Unit is frequently at full capacity.
As you can imagine, all these specialist services are very costly to provide. We need to find nearly 70% of the £4.8m it costs to provide our services this year.
Our annual Malvern Hills Walk is a major fundraising event in our calendar and we would very much appreciate your support in recruiting walkers.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information. You can call me on 01905 763963 or email JStreet@strichards.org.uk
Thank you for your time.

Stroll For Stroke
Sunday 17 May, 2009
During May, we have National Stroke Awareness Day, and we are holding a 'Stroll for Stroke' at Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham. It is an event that any age and ability can take part in, approx 1 mile in length along flat tarmac footpaths – so bring your children, your granny and your dog!
Sponsorship couldn`t be easier – either go for the mile, or if you don`t think you can manage that, how about sponsorship per step – everyone that registers for the walk will automatically receive a pedometer.
For more information and to register contact: jayne.bevan-rabone@stroke.org.uk
