Auvergnian Farm House
This traditional Auvergnian house is arranged on three floors and has been completely refurbished thoughout with solid oak floors, staircase and doors. On the ground floor is a large kitchen dining room with a wood burning stove and a large dining table that comfortably seats up to 14 people. (there are beds for 12 people but two camp beds allow up to two extra children). THE WALKING This area is fantastic for walking. The countryside is similar to the Lake District although on a larger scale. There are lots of well-marked paths & tracks and walking maps of the area are readily available. Compared with the Lakes it's also amazingly quiet. Outside the peak holiday periods you can walk for miles without seeing a soul! LOCATION Our house is in the Bourg (the historic centre) of the village of Murat Le Quaire (1000m) La Bourboule, a winter & summer resort town with lots of restaurants, a large park, shops, 2 supermarkets etc is just 2km away. Murat Le Quaire is just 10 minutes drive from the recently completed N89 autoroute. This makes our house a very easy drive from Calais (around 7 1/2 hours) or Le Havre (under 6 hours). Alternatively you can fly Ryanair or Flybe to Limoges and hire a car (2 hours drive) or get the train from London to Clermont Ferrand (via Paris) and hire a car in Clermont (less than one hour drive from the house). In the summer you can also take your car on the train (www.raileurope.co.uk/frenchmotorail) to Brive which is about 90 minutes drive from the house. FACILITIES General Facilities * TV, DVD player, wood burning stove, gas central heating, * Kitchen: dishwasher, washing machine, range-style cooker, microwave, 2 x fridges, kettle, toaster. Rooms * Ground floor: large kitchen/dining room with French windows that open onto the south facing front garden, sitting room, double bedroom, bathroom/loo with walk-in shower * First Floor: Large master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, two additional double bedrooms, one family bathroom * Second Floor: Two large attic bedrooms share a separate loo with basin. Facilities nearby Restaurants: The local restaurant, Le Relais de la Toinette, just 50 metres from the house is excellent & great value for money. The other must visit restaurant is the Auberge du Vergne Noir. It's a 10 minute walk from the house along a footpath - sometimes through the snow. La Bourboule (2 km away) has around 20 restaurants, bars & even a casino. OTHER ACTIVITIES In the winter sledging, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and dog-sledding are all available in Murat le Quaire. Nearby Le Mont Dore also offers downhill skiing, ice-skating & ten pin bowling. For the summer there is a plan d`Eau swimming and fishing lake 1km from the house + three large lakes nearby. The walking, mountain biking & road cycling in the area are all superb. There is also a golf course & a brilliant high ropes course in Le Mont Dore. La Bourboule has a large park with amazing playgrounds, crazy golf, train rides etc for children.

Basque Paradise

September - June we offer for groups (8min-15max) a drop off and collection service for the 6-8 hr hikes on the GR footpaths,returning to Santa Maria for an evening (with meal) in front of the great fire of the Banqueting Hall. Close to the historic Sisteron in the beautiful, unspoilt Vallée du Jabron the “Chateau de Jarjayes” is set in three hectares of pasture & wooded ground at 750m with no near neighbours and uninterrupted mountain views. The accommodation is a former stone built domestic dwelling for the Chateau which at its height had 100 people, stabling for upwards of twelve horses, a dovecote and its own “Chapelle de Ste.
