Nick and Cathy lead the tours themselves, and their enthusiasm and knowledge of the area combined with the stunning scenery and fabulous walking, makes for a trip to remember. We use top hotels and a luxury Chambre d'Hotes, and all our tours are flexible and adapted to make the most of the weather and our guests abilities and expectations. Nick is a qualified biologist and avid wildlife watcher, and Cathy is a keen historian and trekker. Walking Holiday Le Chatelard France La Bonne Vie, completed in July 2009, is situated on a hillside on the outskirts of the village of Le Chatelard in the heart of the Massif des Bauges regional park. The chalet is arranged on three floors with a contemporary styled interior, under floor heating and views across the valley. On the ground floor is a double length garage, ideal for an impromptu game of badminton and a “cave” area with washing machine / tumble dryer which can be used for storage of walking / ski equipment. On the first floor is a shower room, a modern fully equipped kitchen leading into the dining area and lounge with TV/DVD /Satellite and then onto the balcony. On the second floor are one double and two twin bedrooms and a modern bathroom. Outside we have a decking area for you to enjoy al fresco meals. Le Chatelard is a quiet, friendly village, easily accessible but still remaining unspoilt and retaining a certain charming simplicity. It has a well stocked supermarket, bakery, bar and hotel/restaurant, tourist information, bank and post office and a local market every Friday morning in the summer where you can buy local cheeses, meats, crafts and fresh spit roasted chicken. Les Massif des Bauges is an area of outstanding natural beauty, heritage and tradition and makes a great base to explore a wide range of outdoor activities or to simply relax. Our property is an ideal base for both cyclists and walkers. The walking is fantastic, there are lots of well-marked paths & tracks suitable for all abilities and walking maps of the area are readily available at the tourist office just up the road; the perfect way to explore the surrounding countryside and watch the wildlife. In the summer months the chairlifts are open taking you to the top of the mountains where you can admire the magnificent panoramic views and descend on foot or again by chairlifts. Hiking with a donkey is popular in the area especially for families with younger children. The nearby village of Lescheraines is an ideal location for a picnic and catching some rays. It has a swimming lake with jetty and grass beach, water slide, paddling pool, tree adventure, tennis, trampoline and a restaurant/cafe. It is possible to purchase a fishing permit and try your luck in the River Cheran that runs alongside the lake. In nearby Les Aillons there is an open-air swimming pool complex with two heated pools, water slide, paddling pool and a picnic area. Further afield, both Annecy and Aix les Bains have some lovely lakeside beaches and Lake Annecy (officially the cleanest lake in Europe) and Lake Bourget are ideal for swimming. Two fantastic 18 holes golf courses on the shore of Lac d`Annecy (30km). One in Talloires on the Roc de Chère nature reserve with a panoramic view of Annecy lake and the Château de Menthon and one in Giez facing both lac d`Annecy and Mont Blanc. A Carrefour supermarket has recently opened in Le Chatelard and is just 1km from La Bonne Vie. Les Clarines restaurant serves traditional French dishes and is very popular. For Sunday lunch maybe try the hotel in Jarsy - just 3km away or for a taste of real alpine food go to Mont Pelat restaurant at Les Aillons ski resort (12 kms). Auberge La Margeriaz at the top of the Col de Leschaux (13km) has a simple rustic atmosphere, a log fire in the winter and courtyard dining in the summer, so why not visit Vincent and Cathy who will make you very welcome.

The only equipment you will need are stout walking shoes, a small rucksack, waterproofs and a camera - you won't want to forget a single moment! Walks can be easy strolls, medium trails or more difficult treks. Some of the walks start directly from or very close to our chalets. We are very flexible and can tailor-make the walks to suit your groups' exact requirements, from easy walks through alpine pastures to high glacier trekking with local guides around the Mont Blanc massif. Alternatively, we have an extensive collection of maps and routes in resort to help you plan your own walks, many of which could include a night in a mountain refuge.
