East Sussex Rambling Clubs
Rambling Clubs in Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Newhaven, Rye, Uckfield, Winchelsea
We encourage local people to enjoy walking and protect the places we all love to walk.
Our Group Leaders are experienced walkers and we enjoy a leisurely pace taking in local areas of beauty and interest - a great way to get outside, make new friends and discover how walking boosts your health and happiness.
Our Tuesday walks are usually 5-6 miles incorporating a short coffee break and our Saturday walks are usually between between 7 and 11 miles. We try to keep within a 25 mile radius of Bexhill and meet in Bexhill for car sharing.
We're a very sociable walking group and often finish up at a pub at the end of a walk. We occasionally arrange outings as well as a meal at Christmas time.
We welcome new members and we`d love you to come along and try a walk or two before you decide to take out membership.
We are a small group, hoping to grow, interested in walking and exploring our environment.
Our intention is to have a walk every four weeks, probably on a Tuesday. As the group grows we will consider the needs and desires of all members, and consider changes.
Anyone may lead or suggest a walk. Walks will be of different lengths and on longer walks, in most cases, people may choose to drop out at any point where public transport offers this option.
Oakleafe Rambling Club
Oakleafe Rambling Club (ORC) operates in East of Surrey as well as from their (relatively) new administrative base (of 6 years) in East Sussex.
The original ORC group was established in East Surrey (since 2004). The East Sussex groups are usually under the titles :
..O.. OAKLEAFE SUSSEX RAMBLERS; and
..O.. OAKLEAFE SUSSEX NORDIC WALKING
From their main base in the Cuckmere Valley of East Sussex the Oakleafe Rambling and Nordic Walking Club generally arranges morning/afternoon walks in and around the South Downs of East Sussex, the North Downs of East Surrey and west of Kent, as well as the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Weald, including Ashdown Forest.
Our programme will include some special walks monthly in Surrey designed for families with younger children or those starting out walking for fitness on a Sunday afternoon; regular Nordic walking events; and longer guided rambles fortnightly for all ages.
Since May 2003, we have been arranging walking events for the Caterham & District U3A. Those pre-date the founding of ORC, and actually led to the concept of our Club ~ offering mainly half-day events at weekends. The Caterham U3A Walking Group recently celebrated its 10th Birthday with a walk combining good countryside of a Country Park, and sightings of 37 bird species.
Our rambles are usually designed as an introduction to group walking and rambling in Downland countryside.
Friendly dogs welcome, usually on a lead.
Each year we do arrange three or four day walks; and since 2009, we have also arranged a 4-day walking weekend ~ thus far there have been two on the Isle of Wight and two on the Jurassic coast of Dorset. This year, 2013, will see our return once more to favourite haunts on the Dorset coast.
During 2006 we started a monthly Nordic Fitness Walking Group ~ led by an INWA-certified Nordic Walking Technique Instructor. For logistics reasons, we are able to offer more Nordic Walking in East Sussex than elsewhere, at this time.
In East Sussex we have a monthly weekend event, a weekday morning Nordic Walk fortnightly through the year; and through the spring/summer months we have a weekly Wednesday evening Nordic Fitness group and a new monthly Friday evening test-group (for those Elite exercisers who wish to go quicker!)
